Victoria Gilewicz is freely giving her time and heart to Grace and Body Connection, which she sees is a most worthy cause. Her platform this year, which is dedicated to working with young girls, coupled with Victoria’s personal experiences, makes it apparent her role as the spokes person with Grace and Body Connection is a perfect match. Grace and Body Connection is a ministry whose mission is to meet the needs of the whole person suffering from eating disorders: physical, emotional, and spiritual. A non-profit organization, which turns away no one because of financial challenges, this is a very important ministry in a society where the statistics show 1 out of 3 women now have some form of eating disorder.

Victoria suffered with anorexia from age 10 to age 22 and understands the mind, the challenges, and the seriousness of this torturous disease. Having found complete victory over her battle for many years now, she knows the most solid and workable solutions to assist others in finding their personal freedom.

She learned even as a young girl there were real problems in some recovery programs for eating disorders victims: “The rehabilitation hospital released me prematurely because my parents’ insurance had run out. It was a rude awakening to realize money had to be a bigger factor than personal care over a person’s health and safety. Equally deflating is when my therapist revealed her professional insight that I should never expect to be ‘healed’; that this was just like alcoholism; I would always be anorexic – and probably become bulimic once I left the hospital. How could anyone find enough motivation to pull out of a disease based in depression when they are given no hope? I prayed someday there would be another option for others; a more thorough program.”

Without the privilege of further professional help, Victoria lost most of her growing up years to this over-shadowing of eating disorders until she finally found her own path to a complete healing. Knowing that is a rare occurrence with such a viciously controlling disease, she feels her new life is a gift of grace she is obligated to share. Today, she stands as a shining example that there is hope: that the bonds can be broken permanently and any willing person can rise up victoriously as a “new creation”. Now, as a mom of 2 pre-teen daughters, her perspective as a parent has built an even stronger passion to make a difference in this area than ever before.

“This disease is robbing generations of women their right to see themselves for who they are, what they can be, and even the desire to live to see it. There is a powerful, purpose-filled life worth living on the other side of this battle and I know that Grace and Body Connection is empowered to point them solidly in that direction.”
